If you’re needing some inspiration to help get you in the holiday spirit, I thought I’d put together a little holiday bucket list. Nothing too crazy, but just a few fun things to do during the happiest time of the year. If you have any activities or family traditions you do every year, please share! I’d love to hear how all of you are getting festive.
And don’t miss the outfit details at the end! This holiday look from Mytheresa might be my favorite one yet.
Go to a tree farm
I totally understand that a real tree isn’t for everyone, but the experience of a tree farm is so fun, especially for the kids. You can usually get hot apple cider or hot chocolate and then just walk around taking in the different trees. If you’re not up for a real full-sized tree, have the kids pick out a seedling fir. Keep it in a pot at home. Maybe tell the kids it’s “their” tree. When the holidays are over, plant it somewhere as a family!
See a show
This one might be for the adults only depending on how old your kids are and their attention span, but there’s something about going to see a live holiday show that feels so special to me. Maybe head to dinner first, grab a bite to eat and a trendy cocktail then head to the theater. Some favorites: the Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol!
Bake cookies
One of my very favorite holiday traditions in our house…and the kids’ too! The holidays really are a time to indulge a bit and the kids absolutely love the baking and decorating. So, break out your favorite recipe or try a new one and spend a Saturday afternoon baking.
Turn on a Christmas classic
You don’t have to tell me twice to snuggle up and watch movies. Some of my favorites to reach for year after year are “The Family Stone,” “The Holiday,” “Home Alone,” and “Home Alone 2”. “Elf” is also a funny classic. For the kids, you can never go wrong with “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.
Dress up in your holiday best for a family night
I saw someone on Instagram do this with his family and I’m now obsessed. They headed into the downtown part of their city, dressed to the nines, went to high tea and then took a family photo in front of a giant, decorated Christmas tree. Doesn’t that sound like such a fun family night? I know Sutton would especially like this idea.
And speaking of dressing up, I love today’s outfit from Mytheresa! It’s ideal for a fancy night out on the town. The Ganni sequin skirt embodies everything a holiday outfit should be! It’s sparkly and super special. The red sweater pulls it all together and the oversized fit makes it extra comfortable (this exact one isn’t available anymore, but here’s one that’s very similar). The neutral Stuart Weitzman heels, Valentino bag along with the glitzy statement earrings, all also from Mytheresa, top it off perfectly.
What do you do to get into the holiday spirit?
