Shellac or gel nail polish manicures are long-lasting which is great, however removing them is not so great. Peeling it off can damage the nail and is painful, and going to the salon is not always convenient. So today I am sharing how to remove shellac polish at home.
Here is the trick…you must use nail polish remover with acetone. Using regular nail polish remover will not work. You will also need cotton balls and foil cut into smaller square pieces.
Soak the cotton ball in the nail polish remover and place on square piece of foil.
Place your nail against the cotton ball and wrap the foil around the tip of the finger to secure the cotton ball in place.
Do this to all your nails and let sit for 10-12 minutes. After you remove the foil you will see the polish starting to come off. You may need a sharp tool to scrap off any remaining portions but it at that point the polish is soft and will not damage the nail when removing. Next take a nail buffer and buff your entire nail to remove any remaining shellac polish and to smooth the nail.
I think it's a great step to apply cuticle oil at the end so things don't get dry! That's probably what I was missing when I was getting shellac manicures, and why I eventually stopped! Knowing this I may try one again!
