How to: Fishtail Braid

post featured image

I love the look of fishtail braids! This look is super easy to style and looks great on everyone! It works on all lengths of hair. Here is my step by step guide!
Start with dry to damp hair parted however you like it. I am a side part kind of gal.
Before I begin to braid, I always add a couple curls to my shorter layers in the front that typically fall out of my braid. This add a nice polished touch to your braid.

Comb your fingers through the curls to give them a more relaxed natural curl.
Next, place your hair in a loose, low pony tail. *Use a rubber band that you can cut out at the end.
Next, take your pony and separate into two even sections.
Then, pull a thin strand from the outside of your left section and take that strand over that left section and add to the right section.

Do the same thing to your right section. Take a thin strand from the outside of the right section and take over to the left section,
Repeat again on the left side.
And again on the right side.
Get the point? If not, here is a great diagram that shows you the steps.
Once finished, secure with a clear rubber band.
Next, you will need to cut out the first rubber band you put in your hair. Be careful when doing this!!
To get a more mess fishtail, play around with your braid. Pull some strands or pieces loose.
Once you achieved the look you want finish with spray.
There ya have it! Very easy, right!?
*Tip: do this on damp hair and leave in for the day. Take braid out once hair is dry and you will have a beach wave that you can rock the next day! Two easy hair styles in one style!

  2. I love fishtail braids! I've never thought of curling the front and tying it in so intentionally. It looks super cool, I'll definitely be trying to attempt it. Can't say I'm the best hair stylist, but I try 🙂 Great post 🙂
